Default What Expletive Would You Utter?

Currently being shown on BBC on various news bulletins is an interview with an English lady who is 105 years old. During her recollections she commented on seeing a Zeppelin over London just prior to the First World War, when it came to the Second World War she recalled being on foot in the street when this German aircraft came over, shooting at her and others out there.

Now I would certainly make loud comments, and I've seen modern television and there'd be no holding back from anybody else to express their feelings.

This lady, described it and then added "I thought, cheeky!"

What a difference.

The good old un’s eh?
Our old neighbour (sadly now passed long ago) came from Plymouth and during the Second World War she was shot at in Plymouth by a wandering German plane, when she used to recollect the incident she always said she shouted to them - oi, you cheeky buggers.

I think what he's trying to say is, if it happened today, the lady would have used foul language as is the norm in todays society, but because of her age & the time it happened, she merely said she thought it a bit cheeky

Sorry, sometimes it's difficult to convey the full meaning of one's post but Suzublu has explained it. She was being shot at by a German aircraft and made a very polite (I think) remark, unlike the verbal reaction that most of us would have exercised..

My late father, who was no saint would chastise my mother if she said (What runs through our veins.) with a Y on the end.

To add to above,i often pass on some of the rude jokes on here to my nephew in law,who then says he will tell them to his 3 sons. I could not do the same to my 40yr old son.

I think that generation had an in built "but others have had worse things happen to them" mind set so they didn't "make much of it" as someone has said "not British". Chris. S.
