Am I thick or what
Diesel cleaning additives.
Which one is which? Redex do it Wynns do it Millers do it. They all do diesel cleaning additives. All I want is an additive that I can put into my fuel filter at service time, run engine for 30 seconds or so then leave over night and go for "burn" the following morning. All the makers above do differant types of additive but WHICH flavour is the one I need? Xtreme, Advanced and all the rest but WHICH ONE?

Realistically I think you can use any. I've never found the expensive ones to be much better.
I've used a full bottle of Redex in the filter at service time & half a bottle every other fill up & never had an issue with smoke/emissions in 4 yrs with my diesel AND it's in ASDA at the moment for £2 a bottle. Regards Paul

Not a diesel but Redex made a noticeable difference to my 1.8T. Smoother idle and seemed more willing to rev.

A friend of mine who owns a SAAB independent garage recommends FORTE. In addition you should use the branded diesel as produced by the top PETROCHEMICAL COMPANIES and not the rubbish that is sold by the supermarkets

Hi Al.
This is the one that you put into the fuel filter after add a new one, as above start for 20 seconds leave over night then the next day drive it like you just stole the car https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORTE-Die...4AAOSwbLZa-Dc0 After that you could use this below about twice a year when you do a full fill up of diesel. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Comma-Die...4383.l4275.c10

1. Who produces the "rubbish" that is sold at the supermarket? 2. How does it differ from "branded" Diesel 3. Who says? and what proof? And this is out of genuine interest. I don't drive a Diesel car, but I know of no "small" refiner that can make inferior products, and would believe that Diesel oil must be a highly regulated product, produced to very exact tolerances. Here in South Africa, we have different engine oils, some produced under the brand name of spares chains or supermarkets. I bought some the other day, wondering how good they can be. I read through the label on a 5 liter oil canister. The oil fulfills the requirements for API SJ/CD and that did not make me much wiser. I eventually bought it because it said "Manufactured for the Midas group by Chevron South Africa" And I thought Chevron would not produce junk, would it? In the meantime I have investigated API SJ/CD: https://www.api.org/~/media/Files/Ce...ers_70_yrs.pdf And the SJ/CD corresponds to an oil from about 1992. However, many new cars have roller cams and have different needs to the old type cams, resulting in increased wear of camshafts and lifters if modern oil is used in some older engines. So in some cases, new is not best, I have been told! Now, this is engine oil. Diesel does not come in a five liter can, and has no label! Oh, and I might add, this oil is about 50 to 70% of the cost of a branded oil.
