Driving Licenses.
My driving licence is the old fashioned paper type that I have never bothered renewing.
As it is getting rather fragile now, I don't carry it around with me all the time but try to remember to when I go away for a holiday, in case the Police ever ask to see it (which they haven't in the last 47 years). Anyway, my query is, if I was asked to produce it, how many days would I be given to do so? I think I will have to have a new one in a couple of years anyway when I am 70. |

A 'producer' is a request within 7 days.

Although producers are a thing of the past as the police access to DVLA records at the roadside.
As it only costs twenty quid to update and it can be done online if you have a UK passport it'd be wise to do it before you hit 70. |

When you renew it keep a copy of your old one and check that all your entitlements are transferred to your new license.

You will certainly need a new one when you are 70 and then every three years. Are your details correct on your current licence e.g. address ? If not then you need to get a new one quickly as it is an offence and the fines for incorrect details are hefty ( up to £1000 ) As mentioned doing it online is the best way giving the DVLA access to your passport photograph if applicable. Intrigued by the advice to renew before 70. What would be the benefit? Don't you have to apply again for a licence when you reach 70? |

Have you checked the expiry date on the licence as carrying one which has expired is also an offence?
