Well that's a clever idea (tail lights)
So a tail light failure warning appeared on the display (the offside to be exact) this afternoon, so I parked up and and had a quick look and, well....
The the brake light bulb was illuminated instead, with tiny amount of voltage so in effect i still have 2 rear night-lights! Quite a good fail-safe i have to say |

I do like the bulb failure warning. Last week a stop light blew.
perhaps the DOT should make it law if it is not already that all vehicles be fitted with a bulb out warning system macafee2 |

A lot of newer cars used LED 's these days, you could lose a few and still have a decent rear light

What amazes me is the amount of cars around with only 1 headlight working, people just can't be bothered these days whether the bulbs are inaccessible or not, also there is no plod about so why bother indeed! MOT time is the only time it gets changed I suppose.

This feature has confused many an owner trying to find which bulb is out without reading the manual first, especially if the car has the basic no info centre dash.

I think thats a fair statement for somethings and I agree suspension components are definitely poorer from years ago although cars are probably heavier.
I also agree that parts seem to be manufactured to a lower quality probably to reduce costs. Engine wise I think things are a lot better than years ago. Its very rare for an engine to require a rebuild and smoking petrol engines get less and less. Cars nowadays get scrapped as much for electrical issues as they do for bodywork or mechanical failures. Anyway we would be bored if we couldnt work on our cars
