Best thing to do is start a new thread for your problem - this one is 6 years old!

What are your symptoms? Do they go away if you run with the MAF unplugged? If so then it could be your EGR valve playing up, as this is disabled when the MAF is unplugged.

Do you have a tuning box fitted?

There is no resetting required when you fit a new MAF - it is just plug and play.

i have finally bit the bullet and fitted a genuine Bosch.
5 miles down the road and same same...Does the error code need resetting after fitting a new one or is there a different problem altogether? please help....
Genuine Bosch you say was it an whole unit or just an insert, if just an insert then it may well not be genuine as Bosch only sell the whole unit.

Thanks for the quick reply. Firstly, i have no tuning box fitted. I purchased a complete Bosch unit from a dealer..Symptoms wise, On start up i have an engine management light on permanent, but car runs and pulls fine, then randomly a second light comes on and i lose power under 2-2500 revs. I am having a ton of black smoke periodically and the rear bumper is getting caked in soot. If i pull over and turn off and restart the engine, it will reset and away we go, clear again. I have noticed when climbing a hill on way to work, it brings the light on almost always in the same place. Another query, the turbo duct that connects to the maf has a rubber seal and pushes on, should there be a similar one for the bottom of the hose where it connects as there isnt. I have spoken to a mechanic and he says it is possibly a leaking turbo pipe? How long is it safe to run with the maf disconnected? Thanks so much for your input...

Err, I would suggest it is more than a MAF sensor, you would be well advised to have the car looked at with T4.

Answer to the question above is yes. there is a round seal in the end of the plastic duct shown here by the yellow dots. As above have a T4 session

Thanks again, without the risk of sounding like a total div, i assume T4 is a diagnostic machine? Is it a specific one or just get it on any diagnostics. Im near worksop Notts, do you recommend anyone in the S. Yorks area? Really appreciate your help guys...

Arctic, a friend of mine went through 2 MAFs with severe power issues - that rubber seal was missing from the end of the pipe in your picture.
