Apart from it not being a 75 I have seen barn finds in better condition.

Get it bought, that will make a smashing car

Well better than a 75 tourer, nicer to drive, and considerably rarer

Brian

P.S. I've a wing in the correct colour too, and Rimmers have new tailgates in stock

If it had the Peugeot diesel engine I'd be slightly more tempted

Early style dash (no passenger airbag), so that'll be the Honda 1.6 petrol engine....quite a reliable unit as far as I know.

As Brian intentioned , a very rare car nowadays

I've owned an XUD engined 218, so no thanks, I've also got a 416 tourer, and in every respect it is a much nicer car to drive than any 75 or ZT I've ever owned or indeed driven.

In terms of reliability and economy, my XW 214 has covered a whole 398,000 miles, with one track rod end, and a pair of compliance bushes on the rear arms.

All springs and dampers are original, and the head gasket.........well after I replaced it in 2005 when I converted the engine from a 1400 into a 1600, it appears to still work in 2019.

Of course the car had covered 22000 miles when this conversion took place, and coupled with the LPG conversion, the fuel consumption in a direct cost per mile comparison to diesel, well let's just say I don't think any 75 diesel, or indeed PSA engined car will give the equivalent of 82 MPG

If this car was not at the other end of the country to me, I'd be tempted to buy it, rip out the Honda engine and slot in my nice newly rebuilt 220BHP K Series turbo into the engine bay.

Fair enough can't argue with that, quite a convincing set of figures.

My dad had a M reg 418TD saloon which I did drive occasionally. I remember it being a nice car and he did many thousands of miles including a trip to Corsica. Eventually though it's turbo blew up and it started to runaway. Fortunately he managed to stall it. I had to go and tow him to my house where it stayed for a couple months.

He traded it in for £2000 on the 2009 scrappage scheme for a kia cee'd tourer. I had to tow the 418 to the kia dealer. We stopped about 50 yards away, he started it up drove quickly onto the forecourt in a cloud of smoke, and stalled it again.

The car had to be driven into the dealer to get he money back on it!
A pity really because the car was immaculate for a 15 year old, but he couldn't justify getting a new turbo fitted when someone was offering £2000 for it.
