Last week, with a gippy tummy and a bit of backache, as a belt was uncomfortable, I wore braces with my jeans. Under a sweater though, I hasten to add!!

With a bit of practice it’s easy to unclip them for 'visits'......

Braces under a jumper? You lot are mere beginners. You have to be in modern vogue by wearing your shirt over your jeans. If it looks like you don't need a jumper because you don't feel the cold, you look hard. That means your braces go under your shirt. Fool proof, so long as you don't wear those knackered jeans that make you look like roadkill.

Celia bought me some jeans from Primark. I got her to sew 6 buttons on the inside of the waistband so they wouldn't give away their presence (my shirts are getting smaller it seems - not in length, in waist). Then I received a birthday gift of those modern braces, the ones with clips that are not quite grippy enough. So they now go over the buttons.

Is this where the phrase "Belt and braces" comes from

My Godson (aged 19) regularly wear braces uncovered, and tells me they are now a fashion item. Still don't think I dare try showing mine in public although they are more comfortable and efficient than belts imho!
