Worn rear wheel bearing
Hello, for about the last 2 days I can hear the typical humming that a wheel bearing makes which is coming from the rear side. The problem is, I can't figure out which side it is, right or left... Also, when I turn left while driving at about 30mph the sound is a little more noticeable. Any ideas how to test which one is worn?

You'll have difficulty identifying the location of the noise from the driver's seat looking forwards. The simplest next step is to ask someone who knows what you're talking about to ride in the back and get their head down over either wheel. With luck, they should identify the culprit.

You could try jacking the rear up and whilst rotating the wheel by hand, see if there is any evidence there, by noise or feel?

You gotta love the quality of parts nowadays, installed the rear wheel bearings from GSP 2 month ago and one of them is already humming again lol... this is really ridiculous, and also made sure that tje nuts are tightened to the right torque setting. Will buy now the SKF ones, hope they're better, shouldn't have even installed these from GSP, when looking at them from the inner side, you could see that there was like a half centimeter gap there and you could actually see the grease inside them through that gap, silly me thought that it won't be much of a problem

There is no of course about it, that's why I asked
Rear bearings fail prematurely because of Incorrect fitting Poor quality parts Grease cap missing Rear backplate corroded It is common for the grease caps to be dislodged when the roadwheel is removed, and I've seen a lot of bearing failures due to this omission. So you can take your pick as to why yours have failed so soon after fitting, and "the buy cheap, buy twice" rule does apply here Brian |
