I didn't sell it because it wasn't my car, but I regret that we sold our old family '04 ford fiesta MK6.

It was an objectively awful car, as something broke every few miles. It was underpowered, the paint was in horrible condition, Interior was chipped and things kept falling off, and whenever we went under 30 MPH the car would claim 'EAC FAIL' and go into limp mode, and we couldn't fix it. Plus, we needed a new clutch every 20K miles without fail, but that's my mum's driving...

We got rid of it all of a sudden, my mum finally had enough of it and we bought a newer car on the same day. Got £200 or so for the old fiesta, and although we were originally happy to see it go, it was a good car in its way. I don't know why I liked it so much,I don't think it was the car that was special. I think it was the memories I had in the car, I remember we went to a safari park in it once and a monkey ripped off the windscreen sprayer. I think things like that give a car significance.

I think this video summarises why we love our cars perfectly.

Or I might just be getting sentimental about a rubbish early 00's economy car.

Financially, and with hindsight, many. But at the time, my various cars were daily drivers, and weren’t viable as such, so sold/disposed of.

Included 1937 Morris 8 Tourer

1953 Anglia

1958 Morris 1000 Traveller

1961 Frogeye Sprite

Emotionally? Well, the first car I couldn’t resist looking back at every time I walked away from it was the Moonstone Green pre-facelift 75 Connie SE. But as my son in law now has it, I can still see it regularly, even drive it occasionally!

I think that’s why I regret getting rid of my other blue one as well as the emotional attachment

3.0 V6 Mk II Cortina 1600E and Mk1 Escort 1300XL Estate with full Mexico conversion. Both built by me in my early twenties. I owned the Escort for 18 years and sold in 1996 for just £400.

Also, my wife's 1964 Consul Capri. We built this together in the open in 1980 and it won several prizes for it's Candy Scarlet paint. Featured in a number of shows including an invite to a show in Denmark following an appearance at the 1982 Custom Car show. Let it go in 1995 for £2,500.

I don't regret selling my Mk II Lotus Cortina. It was a dog. As was my '69 351ci Mustang. Looked the business and I was a real jack-the-lad in it back in '83 but 8mpg in London traffic and lack-lustre performance for what was only a 14 year old car meant I only kept it for six months.

Regret selling a 1971 MK3 Ford Cortina GXL, a 1981 Ford Capri MK3, was only an LS, but was in pristine condition.

Also a 1992 Toyota Hilux Surf 2.4i, very rare 3 door petrol model, and a 1998 Toyota Celica 6th Generation 1.8SR limited edition in silver, only 300 made.

I regret selling my midnight blue mk2 rs2000 in my 20's.
Also had a red mk 2 rs2000 xpack with all the full rally stuff ended up a total write off. Sad moment.

A Capri 3 Ghia manual, MK2 Astra GTE and probably the saddest was a Kawasaki KH400. This was the most recent, I bought it to do up and enjoy. I spent about 2 years doing all the work needed and the first time I started and rode it I had goose bumps and I felt 17 again.

Sadly my business got hit hard in the recession and it was either keep it and miss a Mortgage payment or do the sensible thing. It was probably the only vehicle I have ever had a tear in my eye and it was taken away, the £3k in an envelope softened the blow but not for long.

My saab 900 classic, originally bought by its first owner on the last day before the new 900/cavalier model was launched, I didn't sell but it was stolen and set alight. it was like driving a cross between a plane and a tank, so wel built, designed & styled. The only thing that has come close since is a 75.
