Default Rover 75 Connoissour SE 2.5 V6

I'm going to look at this vehicle today registered 2000 with 57000 on the clock. What should I be looking at and are they a good buy.

Have to agree with Bluedaz, the 2.5 was the pinnacle engine when the 75 was designed and gives a beautifully refined drive when mated to the autobox. Thirstier than a diesel, but just sooooo smooth & sound lovely, worth every penny

Great value too nowadays

Forgot to say, worth checking the sills (mainly at the rear, around the jacking points) - can rust here, but is repairable at a price. Rear suspension arms & subframe can also corrode, but can be swapped with good used ones.

I'm sold!

Love the 2.5 V6. Suits the '75 so well.

Maintenance is the key. Make sure you buy a good one. They come up in members cars for sale which may be the safest buy but really good ones seem to be hard to find.

Just back from looking at the car. No expert but their was indications that it hadn't been serviced recently oil very black. Boot was dry, couple of paint blisters on the rear wheel arches. Interior looked OK, warning lights showing bulb failure and pads worn. A lot of mould on trim, it would require timing belt change and full service I reckon. MOT January 2017 took it on a spin and the tone of the exhaust was nice. May buy it if not sold

Looked quite nice in the photos if it is the one in Carlisle. However, given that the arches were blistering, i'd be concerned about the rear subframe. Given the poor servicing, I'd be looking for a decent discount from the £1295 it was up at.

Let us know how you get on!

Hi Fraser
I've asked them to MOT it rather than get a discount. The purchase will depend on the result. I would like to get it serviced by one of our members for peace of mind

Don't know if I got a bargain or your seller is asking a bit more due to the relatively low mileage. My X-plate V6 Connoisseur (albeit without the SE trim) cost me £480 on Fleabay. Yes, I know that was a bit risky. It came with a year's MOT with no advisories and just under 92k on the clock. The brake warning light was on, which was cured with a new set of rear pads and discs, and it was losing a bit of coolant. Since then I've sorted out the coolant issue (thermostat and a couple of hoses) and replaced a brake pipe and it runs beautifully. Looking underneath there's some surface rust on the suspension but it's all solid. I keep getting worried when I hear about some of the problems some of the other guys on here have experienced and wonder when it's going to happen to me. On the other hand I suppose with a car the wrong side of 15 years old, unless you're extremely lucky and get one that's had no expense spared and comes with a full set of invoices, it's always going to be a little bit of a lottery. If there's nothing seriously worrying about it and you can get the price down to around £1000 you won't get more car, or more fun playing with it, for your money.

Default Update on Rover 75 Connoissour SE 2.5 V6 Auto

Had a reply from the garage regarding my request to re MOT the car. The car failed on the following points
Parking Brake: Efficiency below requirements
Parking Brake lever has no reserve travel
Windscreen Washer provides insufficient washer liquid
Nearside front tyre tread depth below requirements of 1.6mm
Near side rear suspension arm corroded and seriously weakened
Advisories
Brake pad sensor warning light on
Fuel tank straps corroded
Centre exhaust heat shield loose
Coolant leaking from reservoir during emissions test.

I still fancy the car despite the above my only problem is that in my opinion I would like to have a major service oil, filter, belts, brakes and new tyres would the cost be prohibitive adding also the cost of the vehicle into the equation
