Default Sigh... thermostat AGAIN...?

Had it replaced about 3 years ago. Noticed my fuel consumption being up since I moved back to N Ireland a few months ago, and put it down to the colder weather, but I checked my actual temperature (using the dash display rather than the gauge, which is sitting at 9:00), and it’s struggling to hit 80 – mostly sitting around 77, even after a long drive.

Would you say it’s gone again?

Thanks

Yes roger, I'd say it's gone.
I know it's a good bit cooler here over the past few days, but after a 10 mile run she should be up to temp.
Mine usually fluctuates between 82-87 at the moment.(saloon).

I have just noticed the same thing, I had a new version (3) oem stat fitted and it has lasted about 2½ years, motorway speeds it sits around 82 - 84 but straight back to 80ish when I stop, I have a V3 one from Mat (DMGRS) to fit as soon as I can.

As the ventriloquist's dummy said, Gollocks.

Oh well, she's going in week after next for complete new rear brakes - guess I'll just have to add this to the list

At least they fail in the open position! Unlike some VAG stupid designs! For me, its about how quickly I get a warm cabin, especially in current weather.

I had the same problem in my CDTi, engine temperature maximum 73-74, no matters how long and fast I've been driving. I fitted last time Renault thermostat, now I don't have problem with temperature. Cheap and successful option.

My 2.5 was registering around 65-70oC in the freezing weather last week, yes I think it must be stuck open.

Apart from the cabin taking an age to warm up, are there any reasons to get it fixed as a priority? I haven't seen much effect on fuel consumption and it must have been like this for a good year (not all that long after replacing the previous thermostat due to the inevitable leak I might add) so the main annoyance is the cold cabin (especially as my heated seats aren't heating at the moment - presumably a fuse but haven't had the time to investigate that either).

Thought the party line was to use the stat in the top hose?
