My son has a railway behind his house and the rats there are also ridiculous, there were a half dozen hanging from one feeder last year like a ride at Alton Towers, the feeder had to come down eventually as the rats were also using his pond as a spa, he took away the food and within a week there were no sign of them.

Apparently they don't like the smell of diesel (Who does!) I'm going to soak a rag in diesel and hang it nearby..
Failing that the feeder will be moved a la mission impossible..
