I'm a bit late to this thread
I had a detached retina some 5 years back, the consultant said that as a result of the first operation they planned I was guaranteed to get cataract in that eye so he said that he would replace the lens when I had my second op (and I thought there was only going to be 1 op!!) ended up with 3, but that's anther story

When they replace the lens affected by the cataract, they freeze the lens then use ultrasound to break up the lens before hoovering/flushing it out.

I'm not sure if you have Anaesthetic for a cataract op, but I assume you do.
For me the worst part was laying down with the eyelid clamps in place while the Anaesthetist did the injection with, what looked like a 4ft needle

I have a cataract forming in my right eye and I've been dreading having anything done. The positive vibes here make me think otherwise. Thank you folks.

I didn't have any needles, it was just drops for the anaesthetic, the same when I had my retina op.

I think he meant 'wouldn't'

My 94 year old mum just had her eyes done. She says the improvement in colours for her is amazing. Lots of eye drops. Disorientating when the first eye is done, glass prescriptions of course change. After the second eye op was completed, she couldn't drive for two weeks, but is now very happy indeed. She is 'old school' and a proper trouper!

My Dad has just had a cataract surgery. He will stay at our place for some time just to be sure he is ok. To be honest, I thought there would be more issues after the procedure. But all he needs is antibiotic eye drops to prevent infection and anti-inflammatory eye drops to control inflammation (I double-checked the info about them on the Canadian Pharmacy site). Also, it is important not to put pressure on the eye for at least 1 week.
