Having lived right through the era of state owned enterprises with their inefficiences and could not care less attitudes, I can only anticipate that if it comes to pass again, it will not have improved over the last time.

Anyway if you take the railways (for example), it will be the same staff and managers (where else will you find persons with day to day experience?) being interefered with by political appointees and MPs to the overall detriment of services.

Myself as well and I too remember the terrible attitude.

I would add that it is worthwhile reflecting on how such nationalised industries came about. They were a product of us fighting a War - WWII.

These industries got the resources they needed during the War and in the aftermath and produced a product pretty much without any need to make a profit.

If they made a loss it was of little consequence because the tax payer could be asked to simply stump up more dosh. Basic rate income tax at 33% and a top rate of tax of over 90% supposedly made sure the tax£ was a never ending money tree.

But when people objected to poor service and products de-nationalising was the obvious option - and on the whole this was enormously successful (tho’ I have distinct issues with the rail network) - so much so that the required “money tree” could be “pruned”.

And we now enjoy a very much higher Income tax personal allowance as well as basic rate tax down to 20%.

But Indirect Taxes are higher - and again I have distinct issues re VAT and Fuel Duty as these taxes negatively effect the low paid to a disproportionate degree.

As I said in a previous post - this idea of “renationalising” is penned by people incapable of joined up thinking. It’s a sales gimmick for an ideology.
