They are supposed to fit over the ends. They have been pressed from a single piece of plastic and one side is wafer thin and also bits missing"

Hi Neill,
The springy ones you mention (drivers side on R.H.D.) should not require changing, usually only the other side. I had the same problem with the new ones so did not change them and it still works fine. Neil |

Sunroof
Can I assume a motor for e46 will just be a direct replacement also? Looks the same?

Found this thread really useful for my failed sunroof problem. The sunroof had failed in the closed position (fortunately). I swapped out the switch for a known working switch and the problem remained. The old switch worked fine on another car. Found fuse no 40 which was actually a 30amp. This fuse had blown, so I feared the motor might be burned out too. Replaced it with a 15a fuse and the roof started working again. It did throw a wobbly though and when it got to almost closed it re-opened. Noticed the sunshade/visor under the glass was not running smoothly, so at some point I'm going to dismantle the whole thing and take a proper look. Not sure if I dare use the reset procedure until it's all cleaned out, clips fixed and lubricated, but I managed to get it closed by stopping it just before it bounced back and then a few short taps to close it fully.

Sorry to hijack the thread but it is sunroof related. For many years my sunroof will open at the touch of button - either popped up or fully wound back. It will not want to close without holding the button until it is closed. If not, it bounces back. I have cleaned/oiled the runners but it never helps. I’ve tried resetting it snd used TOAF, it sometimes works just the once then back to ‘bounce back’. I suppose it’s the anti trap working, but no one has been able to fix it. Just annoying that it doesn’t work as should. Suggestions?

Mine also sometimes won't slide open unless I select tilt first. It sounds like ECU nonsense doesn't it. Simon

Such a pain, I remember asking the former dealer a few years ago when it first started doing it. Shrugged shoulders and said something about wiring. Now if it wore a BMW badge they’d have been all over it. Ah well will just keep pressing and holding.
