Rear stub axle passenger side zt-t diesel manual
My 2002 ZT-T Diesel has failed its MOT and I've just been informed by the garage (who I trust) that it requires a passenger side rear stub axle. Is this obtainable as a separate part? Any ideas where I might get one?
Thanks, Stephen |

You’d need to clarify what’s wrong here, these don’t have stub axles (or any passenger cars for about 30 years??)
You either need a driveshaft, cv joint or a wheel bearing, can’t imagine the wheel flange is damaged? Although it is also available if needed.

Apparently (I'm going only by a quick call from the garage), the rear nearside brake was stuck on and that this was disguising a very worn wheel bearing, which has only become evident with this investigation. The garage are saying that the thread has now been worn on the "axle stub" (their words!), so a new wheel bearing can't now go back on. I have a feeling they're not using correct terminology here, but hopefully this is enough to go on? Thanks Stephen

Apologies, I’d somehow presumed you were talking front…
The “stub axle” is part of the trailing arm assembly. I don’t believe they’re are serviceable separately and would require a replacement trailing arm. New they aren’t extortionate if available but a second hand assembly would be the way to go. I can’t see the threads being worn though, a tired wheel bearing wouldn’t damage that part. I’d have to look myself to determine whether it’ll go again or not, certainly isn't a 5 min job to swap a trailing arm over…

Surly if the stub axle thread is worn beyond use then the nut was missing and if so the wheel would have wanted to come off, the hub wheel and disc would have to move about 3" to get near the thread. I personally would want to have a look to verify what you have been told.

I certainly need to talk to them again as it doesn't seem to add up. It was driving well considering...

You just need a rear hub, they are easily obtained from a breakers as they rarely fail, a couple of hours t change over so not the end of the world.
Pic stolen from another thread on here, but this is the bit that will have been damaged by the worn bearing.... Sent from my SM-G780G using Tapatalk

Would you be inclined to say that the hub had been damaged by the garage maybe, by trying to get a worn stuck bearing off? Does the actual hub axle part unbolt from the trailing arm? i have never really took mush notice, also i think i am right in saying it's the right side that is needed. link below but seems they have sold out, who would have thought it. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/332712431288 https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID001553
