Default A new project for Bastelmann*

*basteln = to tinker; Mann = man

I recently purchased a beautiful 2002 zircon silver saloon on the cheap. 2.5 KV6, auto gearbox, xenon, LPG, no rust. Suspension, brakes, paintwork, mot, interior etc. are fine. The previous owner has had bad luck in terms of a sudden loss of coolant followed by an overheating of the engine. Fortunately the damages are straightforward so it will be fully restored bit by bit. Heads are already done and as good as new.

Planned mods: Upper and lower grille with stainless steel mesh, full-grain leather seats, headrests etc., 18" hairpin alloys, real wood dash, electric rear sunblind, new footmats with stitched logo patches (all needed parts are already available respectively on its way to me ).

And last but not least the car will get a duotone paintwork: zircon silver below and damson red on the top. I´m sure it will look absolutely stunning ...

I'm sure we all look forward to seeing pics during and at the end of the project.
Like to see Duotones although I've never fancied one myself! The red and silver sounds good

This arrived two days ago:

Powdercoated and in used but very decent condition. They will fit the silver beauty perfectly, I think.

Yesterday I started preparing a mesh grille for the silver beauty:

Up next I`ll spray the non-chromed parts of the grille in zircon silver (primer, colour, clearcoat). The lower grille in the bumper will also be fitted with stainless steel mesh of course. The mesh is the electropolished stainless steel mesh offered by Lockwood international. Not cheap at all but of high quality. Interestingly I wasn´t able to find an equivalent regarding both the quality of the material and the mesh size at German vendors.

By the way: In the meantime my motorcar mechanic has completely overhauled the cylinder heads. They are now planned and fitted with new valves and valve seat inserts so the engine can next be putted together.
