Default Jordimussol's Urban Explorations

Well, here's a post of my Urbexing photos I've done. Mostly all on the island of Mallorca, where I'm from, but I do travel a bit and if there's something to venture into, I'll scout it.

Rather than putting all photos here, I'd prefer to forward you the link to my Flickr album.

Will start with a mysterious one, John Barry's Villa. Started in the late 70's, this villa was never finished. Planning laws at the time didn't allow to build such a big house in a small plot and has been in the news several times. When I visited it looked like it was going to be finished off as it was rather clean.I think it got sold and passed onto the new owner who will finish the villa off. John Barry never got to see his finished villa.

Those of you who have had the pleasure of holidaying in Alcudia, Mallorca may have seen this.

It was once a cabaret venue and on opening night a performance by Julio Iglesias. I seem to remember it only lasted one season and soon went bankrupt.

The old prison. Once it shut down the town hall started to use it as an improv mini theatre place.

I went there with my English friend Nick, we spotted an open side door, went in and found a few squatters. My mate doesn't speak Spanish and I don't look all that Spanish either, I posed as a brit. A guy there wanted to charge us 20eu entry fee. Another lady there said it was just fine. They never knew I could understand what they were saying. It was pretty cool to play Johnny Foreigner...

True, but we lack a lot of things. I'm quite limited here in Mallorca. No abandoned RAF bases, or old large factories. We just got a few sheds-small factories, houses and small army bases.

This 'restaurant club' place was a major disaster. It never fully opened and was only used as a bar/restaurant. Was supposed to be a 'private gentleman's club' and yes, a brothel. Wondered why all rooms had large(ish) bathrooms in them and quite remote. Much didn't make sense as a hotel.

The owner was a Swiss rich kid that believed he could build whatever he wanted. He got caught and never got to finish the project.

Thank you for showing us something tourists never get to see. Here is a link to a bunker you might know? https://youtu.be/r1Rwb7HFsks

Yup. This property has been given back to the old owners when Franco snatched it off them back in the Civil War. Since owners cannot build on them anymore as they're protected coastal areas, it just lies as is. They keep boarding up these places but somehow they get opened again.

Here are my photos of the area:

Did a visit a few years ago but seemed to have lost the photos. Will have to revisit. Lots to explore there.

Behind every photo is a story. Thank you for adding in the details about the properties and their histories.

Mallorca has a history of many pirates coming and going. We have numerous watch tours dating back from 1200-1300's. They are there set apart at a reasonable distance and once pirates were seen they'd light a fire. Every tower would then start a fire and relay the signal onto the populated areas. These towers are mostly seen along the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range.

Back during the Civil War and Franco's foreign embargo, some of the caves on the east and west coast (Sóller and also Cala Millor, Cala Rajada) was were most contraband items were brought in.
