Washing machine . doh!!
Said to her... Washer sounds a bit noisy ?..
Says she yeah been like that for a while .. was going-to mention it . So muggins pulls the drum up and down , clunk clunk!! same muggins pulls its apart ( well out of warranty now).. To find an unwell rear bearing.. half balls , all balls on one side as never found the bearing cage .. but there was a pile of swarf on the floor .. I bent the old seal getting it out .. Think we caught it just in time, lucky the front bearing was still together .running in hot soap .. and no grooves in the seal surface. 2 bearings and seal 20 quid .. Nothing like having some mechanical sympathy NOT!! And the grey gunge in all the hidden crevices ... yuk!! , lucky things actually come out clean !!

What makes was the machine? Our Bosch is getting noisy and I was thinking about attacking it, missus says she can't do without it so it would need to be done in a day.

its an ISE 555 , Was 500 quid Over 10 years old now, and just out of warranty .
But easy to work on and parts are reasonable.. Grab hold of the drum and see if it lifts up and down, or is grumbly when rotated , prob is once you get play in the bearings, the front seal start's to leak with the movement , the detergent then washes out all the grease and then its on a quick road to destruction. Surprising the bearing actaully run a bit in soapy water , but in between washes its all rusting up and then it will eventually jam up and destroy the bearings. Also when in bits make sure the seal surface on the Drum spider is smooth or the new seal won't last too long . C.
