Default bmw mk4 sat nav upgrade

I Just wanted to say a thank you to Baris of carphonics who today upgraded my sat nav to a bmw mk4 - an easy straight swap, and included a rover splash screen on it for me as part of the price.

He is a very nice guy, and also upgraded my bm54 to include a bluetooth streaming aux in to connect my phone to and upgraded the bm54's firmware to the latest version for me.

An excellent contact for people who are retrofitting bmw kit - i think he spends some time on some rover forums, but not many as he beleives most are going down the chinese headunit path rather than the bmw kit. I don't know if that is true of not, but for me he was a godsend, and if anyone else is doing this work, he is a great and trustworthy guy and he can be reached via his contact details on his site http://www.carphonics.co.uk.

Sounds interesting; is this upgrade a swap for an existing sat-nav unit or can it be fitted to a vehicle like mine that has an after-market single din unit? If so could you give me an idea of price?

yes, i had hiline and upgraded the individual components. i think you'd have to upgrade to all the wiring etc for a hiline to make use of a bm54 though. I know they will work fine with a standard hiline without upgrading all the other bits.

As for pricing, ebay will be your best source, with all the bits you'd need - certainly you'd need a headunit, be it the original rover one, or a bmw 16:9 boardmonitor type like I just upgraded to, you'd need a tv module unit if you want tv (they are mostly analogue remember , but you can use an aux in if you get the right cables, or you can get the hybrid digital ones for more money).

You'd also need the sat nav drive, and radio tuner, and an assortment of wiring looms and brackets to fit it all in. I was thinking of selling all my replaced rover modules, but they wouldn't have the looms and the brackets of course.

As for prices of bmw units, boardmonitors range around 120 onwards, bm54's tend to be about 150 I think, plus about 30-40 for a converter cable, tv units, 30-50, and sat navs like the bmw m4 average around 250-30.

Wiring and brackets I don't know about as that was all in my car already and I didn't need to touch it.

There is a howto on the site about how to retrofit it I believe.

hope this helps.

Tony

It's 3 I think Colin?- the main one is the round to flat bmw quadlock converter lead, the radio converter as the radio connection is different, and the 10-12 pin iso convertor for the speaker connections

This one has the lot and is the one I got:
