Andy,
I dont know what has prompted this and I have not had any work done by you.

I do know that your reputation regarding clutches is what legends are made of and would not hesitate to ask you to do my cdti clutch (as it is I am thinking of asking you to look at it as the clutch action is way heavier than my 260 clutch).

What it costs it costs to have a top job done. However, I doubt that you are overcharging somehow.

Andy

Your prices are very reasonable for the level of expertise you bring to the work, and taking into account the convenience of doing it at the members home, travel time etc. I think the 'book time' for a Rover clutch is 6 hours - very few garages charge less than 50 pounds an hour now, so that will be a at least 300 pounds labour (plus VAT) - parts are another 200 pounds plus, so even the cheapest garage will be more expensive than your current prices. However, I think the main point is, most garages do not fit the best quality parts - as you know, when you took the old clutch parts off my car that my local garage had fitted, they were not genuine new LUK or Borg and Beck parts - they were cheap copies or reconditioned, rather than new parts. Also, from my own experience, they do not take the care that you do to do the job properly. After one clutch change, I picked up the car from the garage, and the trim panel over the pedals was hanging off, the pipework round the battery box had not been re-fixed - all signs of a shoddy job (and the clutch was still heavy and juddered).

So, ignore those on here you say you are too expensive - you offer good value by providing quality parts/fitting service at prices generally below what most garages would charge - nobody can really argue with that, can they ??

In my book there's two ways, the easy way, use a local garage and take a chance you get a half decent job at a reasonable cost ........

and the hard way, book and wait for one of the specialist forum traders to be able fit you in .......

when you take the second way the job may take a few days or more to organise, the work will be 100% with a guarantee and standards of the highest calibre often at a much lower price than your general garage.

I have done around trip of around 260 miles to use one of our traders.
A good reputation is hard to earn and trust goes a long way in my book.

Until I need a clutch and compare your price with my local guy I'm not gonna know. Then is it supply/fit or just fit? Seems many have compared and still find you the cheapest, add to that your experience and no quibbles and you are the obvious choice. Members aren't stupid, and if your prices didn't add up favourably then you'd get no work!

Mate, over here in Australia some auto chain stores wont even take on a belt change for a Kv6 motor and if you can find a nechanic who will do it they will charge $1,000 AUD for belts, water pump ,tensioners etc
Thats about 2000 pounds in your money !
That is an average price as ive had both my cars done by different mechanics!!
