Default mpg 75cdt tourer

Apologies if this has been mentioned before.
my 75 (147000m) is only doing 30 mpg. This is a round trip to work of 13 miles.
my journey to work consists of a fair few islands, stop start at junctions
and a few sets of lights.
My journey home is mostly dual carriageway with a couple of islands.
Surely it should be better than that ?

Is yours a manual or auto?

It's a manual. It does take a long time to warm up though, I can leave home for work and by the time I get there the gauge is only about a quarter of the way to normal. Could this be the reason it uses alot of fuel?

Sounds like a dodgy thermostat maybe?

Yes, check the actual running temperature using the on board diagnostics mode in the speedo.

1 Put key into ignition and turn it to position 1 (instruments activated).
1a If you intend driving with diagnostic mode active, start the engine now.
2 Press and hold the trip reset button.
3 the LCD display will show "test 1.-"
4 Immediately press the reset button every half second until you get to "test 19.-". (19.0 allows access to diagnostic mode)
5 The display will now show alternating "Log 1 -on" / "Log 1 -off"
6 While it shows "Log 1 -off" press the reset button and with no delay press the trip until you step through to test 7

This will display the temperature in degrees

Your only doing a 6 1/2 miles journey from cold every time - so 30 MPG is not really that bad !

Yep that's it. Although slow to warm up it should be up to temp by about 4-8 miles (depending on the exterior temp and driving conditions). That is to say the needle pointing at 9'o' clock - even then due to the way the needle works it sometimes isn't fully warm. Search the forum for 'diesel thermostat' and 'renault thermostat' for possible causes and solutions.

Mine is up to the half way point on the guage after about 4 miles - but the auto box does hold it in lower gears until its warmed up.
