i went down the 190 route on my ztt.the only advantage i found was the braking from high speed.i also found out the bigger discs can warp.i got thro two sets.and at this size they where not cheap.in desparation i fitted in the end some used genuine mgr ones that where fine with no issues whatsover and they where still on the car when i sold it.for this reason and also note your spacesaver will not fit on the front in the case of a puncture. (you need a spare full size wheel or swop from front to back)plus the cost of decent discs and the rest of the kit.i will stay with my standard brakes

I have standard ZT diesel brakes, the 160 remap and have never found the brakes to be wanting. I can be an energetic braker at times and give the brakes a good workout.

How about keeping the same calipers / brake sizes and upgrading the discs to a quality item like MTec and fast road pads (EBC any good on these cars?). Along with an upgrade to DOT 5.1 fluid should improve braking efficiency when pressing on.

I run DOT 5.1 fluid in mine. Gives you that extra range before the fluid boils.

Pagid grey pads in my Fiat (has Brembo 4 pots) made a huge difference to braking, along with a quality pair of discs.

My brakes have to work well where I live as it's fairly hilly. But I have never had a problem with them.... innit..

+1 for looking at the quality and specification rather than size: not only will it be cheaper in the long run they'll be hardly any noticeable difference. Fitting 190 brakes to a non 190 ZT or 75 will probably count as a modification (for insurance: who may or may not care) - fitting ZT sized wheels on a 75 almost certainly will up your premium as well. Replacing brake disks/pads/fluid with as good or better than OEM?

Having the 160 remap makes no difference when 'uprating' the brakes. Braking from 70mph, or even 120 mph for that matter with or without the remap will still require the same braking force. I never subscribed to this idea. Although in most cases, someone who uprates a car's performance via remapping, can be assumed to be a harder driver, and possibly exceeding the speed limit or even the quoted top speed of the car. However if you adhere to speed limits, it will matter not whether you have uprated from 116 to 160 or even 2000 bhp!

Theoretically the larger surface area of the pads and discs being activated for braking, will increase, with the 190 'upgrade' , so therefore it should slow down or stop with less effort over the same distance. Or alternatively, stop in a shorter distance with the same effort applied. In reality, I do not believe there will be a huge difference to these figures (effort or distance).

The 190 engine cars, without looking it up, I would have thought were the same mass as the 160 (petrol) cars. Or at least very similar. But why (the designers) put larger brake discs onto the 190 car? Considering that the cars may be used in unrestricted roads, faster top speeds may be achieved therefore larger discs supplied to allow for that eventuality.
