I think with this turbo they went the way of increasing low down RPM torque and trying to eliminate some lag with a smaller turbo, Diesels don't rev so no point in having a massive turbo you would hear spooling giving a massive shove in the back at 3000 rpm then run out of puff at 4500.

Apart from a bit of noise at idle (better with a new crank pulley I will admit) I have always found my standard CDT has enough power for almost silent cruising at 70mph + (where permitted of course, over 100 still feels quiet smooth and relaxed seen 120 a couple of time and still not on the red line, gets there quiet smoothly as well) with goodish economy for a car this size and weight.

And if I want to go fast and have fun I leave the family car at home and go play on my Kawasaki ZZr1100. 146 bhp in a bike, now that is shove in the back hang onto the handle bars fun, and I've never driven a car with the same thrills per mile (even Rs500 cossies, Porsche 911 or Morgan +8, quick but no Cigar)

In good condition and with the 160 remap a CDTI will keep pace with a 2.5V6 up to approx 100 mph, after that the v6 will have the edge...

As for noise, mine (diesel auto) is pretty quiet.... Road surface makes a big diff innit...

The diesels are quick enough when you learn to get the power out of them - rev them like a petrol and you'll be disappointed.
The automatic gearbox does a damn good job of using the available power efficiently, in both of mine it pulls cleanly between 2.5k and 3.4k in every gear when accelerating hard.

Don't bog the revs down below 2k, and don't go above 3.5k ish (as there's just no point really!) and you'll learn to ride the power band in no time.

Not expecting a sports car as have that aspect covered with the MGF's the 75th Anniversary is also slightly tweeked with higher lift cams .

Two reasons for wanting the diesel auto is two fold:-

1) Reduced fuel consumption

2) Towing
