Yes, that's correct for the 1.8 engine. MGR states 104°C. But Micheal, by activating your air conditioning you have proved that your slow speed is working, provided that the fan ran continuously rather than pulsing on and off.

Thread resurrection!!
I have a pre facelift saloon with the fan on all the time issue. It has the V6 2.5 engine which isn't really covered on any thread on this forum that I can find. What am I checking first in this engine please as the examples are either the diesel or the 1.8 petrol? Thanks, Rick |

New question, KV6
Quote:
Much of what you read about the 1.8 petrol engine also applies to your V6. The main differences are:
So first of all Rick, what year is your car (there’s no data in your profile)? When you look through the radiator grille, can you see a silver rectangular resistor mounted on the fan shrouding at about the two o’clock position? When you say that the fan is running all the time: 1. Make sure first that the heating/air conditioning is in ‘ECON’ mode. 2. Is the fan running without interruption or is it pulsing on and off repeatedly? 3. Is the coolant level up to the ‘max’ mark in the expansion tank? 4. Has anybody been working on the cooling system recently? 5. Have you activated the instrument pack diagnostics to check the actual coolant temperature? 6. Does the fan stop when you switch off the ignition? Simon

May be worth checking if someone has fitted an old type thermostat, not knowing about the PRT.

Hmm, hence the confusion which occurs when other people’s threads are adopted for an associated problem with a different car! It’s always best, in my view, to start a new thread.
Andrew (drewbie); JRE hasn’t logged onto the forum since April 2011 so your advice is falling on deaf ears unfortunately. It’s also a good idea when replying to use the ‘quote’ button so that there’s no doubt to which post you are referring. Simon
