Default beware senior moments

A word of warning, don't do what I have done. Decided to use a headlight refurb kit I was given as a xmas present. All went well according to the instructions and the end result, although not perfect ( some deep stone chips remained ) I was happy that I had improved the light output. I used plenty of water to lubricate the abrasives used ( 800, 1200, 2000 ) and the polishing paste. I had masked off pretty well before starting so once I had washed all the residue off I assumed all was well and went for a short drive!!! BIG MISTAKE. The residue from the polishing paste had run down behind the rad, lights etc and the fan did a great job of distributing masses of white blobs all over the engine. Took half a day removing them and cant reach all without engine removal. NOT my brightest plan. BE WARNED.

Blimey!
So be sure to remove engine before doing the headlamp polish. Worth remembering.

Yes dinky d there was masking tape in the kit and I also used plastic sheeting and gaffa tape to protect the bodywork, however because I drove the car straight away there must have been a fair amount of wet paste residue hidden behind the light units which was forced into the engine bay by air pressure. Probably if I had left it for a few hours it would have drained away or dried. it took a lot of work to remove it, and that's why I posted a warning to others not to be as simple as I was.

Remove the lights from the car is best, and will not take that long

The method I use for headlight removal is to take out the top row of bolts holding the bumper to the slam panel, plus the 2 screws under the wheel arch and tilt the bumper forward. Then you can access the 2 bolts holding the front of the lights, along with the 2 top bolts, unplug and remove
