As previously mentioned a remap can transform the car’s performance but one does not need to drive like a boy racer to enjoy the benefits.

More torque
Better mpg will probably pay the £20 to the insurance company and some.

Insurance is a necessary nonsense - I'm certainly not going to ask my insurer if they'd like more money from me

I have no plans to have my car remapped, but am curious as to whether insurance companies actually pay attention to such matters.
They could tell quite easily by dumping the ECU and having someone who understands the maps check it over. But, it is more the fact that they most likely never will.

When I declared the remap on my BMW to the insurance, the premium went down

What do you tell them ? What proof do you need to show, do you need a readout also ?
Just wondering.

When I told them on my insurance, there was just a tick box that said Engine Remap, ticked that and there were no further questions. They may ask more over the phone, but I manage my policy online and it is with Esure.

Paul.

I just wonder, if one has an accident and has not admitted to a remap what happens if that person is held responsible for the accident and the insurance has to pay out to a 3rd party? Do the insurance company take the insured to court and sue them perhaps winning? Can the insured be forced to sell everything they own to pay the debt?

Seems one is risking a lot to save a few quid.

I'm looking at getting our CDT tourer remapped, recommendations for where to get it done in the south west most welcome. I've already discussed with insurers to find out what the extra cost would be and they wanted to know what percentage increase I'd get.

So does that mean that after a re-map my 75 diesel will be able to out drag a modern BMW 320D away from the traffic lights?
