Default 160 Remap Query.

Hi All,

Does anyone know if there's an easy way to tell if a car has had the 160 remap ?

I have a (relatively new to me) 131ps CDTi diesel, which goes very well and I'm wondering if it's been 'fiddled' with ?

I have access to a Snap-on diagnostic machine which shows boost pressure. Is this something that is increased with the remap and if so, what are the standard (131) and revised (160) boost pressure figures ?

Or alternatively, is there another easy way of telling ?

Many thanks in advance

Put it on a dyno

You can read the tune number which is altered when they apply the map with the T4. If you have toaf, plug it in and post the NNW number that it shows. Boost pressure isn't altered as it isn't controlled by the ecu.

It could have an aftermarket map on it. If you are able to dump the ecu I can check to see if it has been mapped.

Thanks for that, unfortunately I don't have Toaf nor a rolling road

I thought the turbo boost had to be increased if you upped the fueling ?

Ideally it does. To achieve around 150-155bhp you need to be upping the boost to 24psi with a manual boost controller . You can still achieve 320-330lbft of torque without it, as the maximum torque comes much lower in the rev range, but you'll have a little smoke at the top end. You run out of boost before you run out of fuel. The maximum power the fuel system can produce is approx 177bhp. With my old ZT I had a 330D VNT turbo fitted which was pushing 32psi of boost into it, and with the fuel system maxed out it managed 177bhp on a dyno. Torque curve was amazingly smooth with the VNT

So out of interest, what is the standard boost pressure for a 131 ? (I'm guessing it's the same for the 116 ?)

19ish PSI providing there are no leaks

I can usually tell by the throttle response, if it's got a 160 on it then the response is instant when you depress the pedal. Normally there's a bit of lag

But definitely the tune assembly number will be different unless it's a 3rd party remap.

I can totally agree with that statement, mine thinks it's an F1 car when I hit the accelerator, I'm guilty of having a heavy boot and I have to remind myself to be gentle
That said though it's well handy on the motorway

Having driven the regular diesel and the remap, most noticeable difference is how the engine revs more freely on the remap version. It doesn't have the diesel torque drop off as much.

Default petrol

Apologies for highjacking the thread. I have a 1.8T which Im considering having a remap on. Will this new E10 petrol have to be taken into consideration or would one have to use super unleaded all the time.
