I've checked under the carpets for water ingress but both sides are dry and visually the side impact sensors look ok. I've removed the steering wheel to look at the airbag connection but again it looks ok. I know they could have a fault. I've now removed the airbag ECU next to the handbrake. again its all dry and looks okay. So Now I've bought a second hand airbag ECU from Ebay and waiting for it to arrive. Does anyone Know if I have to get it set up at a garage or can I just plug it straight in. I'm stuck with the light on and the MOT is due in 2 weeks. Any advice would be welcome.

Many thanks. Alex.
Unsolder the underseat connector and connect a 2.2 ohm resister (eBay) in place of the airbag. If the light goes out its the airbag itself or the wires to it that are at fault.

Hi Andrew
I presume you are referring to these below to help establish if the wiring or the air bag it's self is the problem.

I would imagine its quite easy to make one of these up below, from the old connectors if they have been removed.

Hopefully you are not stating/ suggesting to use them as a replacement, which i think you are not, as the airbag would not then work.

Yes that's them Arctic, there's a variety on ebay and as you say for fault finding, although I've got to put my hands up to using one once to get thru an mot to buy me a bit of time before subsequently replacing the entire drivers seat from a doner car.

I have seen cars with the warning light wired into a timed circuit that brings the light on for the desired amount of seconds each time the ignition is switched on. It also works for ABS and engine management lights.

The people that do will get away with it until part of the MOT involves plugging into the obd port.

Solved my airbag fault yesterday, it was passenger side pretensioner, even though the T4 was saying it was the right one, connector sorted out and all is well again.

Glad you’re sorted. The T4 not knowing what side confirms what BigRuss said about Toaf (https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...d.php?t=318028) - funny though that Hogweed managed to get the light out (?)

Keep well

I did, honest guv. I suspect had I selected the one on the other side it would have had the same effect, but I'm too glad the light's out now to risk it

Sorry, the question mark was not directed at your successful "disable" but rather my lack of understanding why it was possible as the tensioners are connected in series. Still, there's a lot of this stuff that puzzles me: had a problem with my SRS (ZS180) despite my T4 - solved by swopping side sensors left & right.

Keep well

Ha ha, I know... our cars' electronics seem fundamentally mysterious

Mike - where was that TOAF-compatible cable you mentioned? Naturally I didn't write it down at the time, and can't find it now

Thanks
Roger
