Cool Well, that didn’t go to plan

There is a breakfast meet out at Camelford tomorrow, open to all cars not just MG Rovers. So I thought I’ll take Banana. To save time tomorrow I’ll go and get my petrol today.
Pulled up on the pump and filled the tank up with liquid gold.
Went in to pay and when I came out Banana was dumping the petrol out. Pouring out on the near side.

The garage personal swung into action. They cordoned off the two pumps, told me not to move the car. They then put sand down and pushed under the car to soak the fuel up. The very nice young lady, who was scattering the sand, told me to go back into the shop to phone the AA. She said it was warmer in there. That wind certainly had an edge on it.

I have the AA app on the phone and filled out the details. And lo and behold in less than 5 minutes the patrolman phoned me to ask where I was. “In Saltash services”. So am I he said but I cannot see a Yellow car. “I’m in the garage”. And with that he appeared. He was in the services next door having his lunch.

Back seat out and the fuel filter was the culprit. Not sealed properly. The AA man said that the car would need to be taken back to the garage as the seal was no doubt damaged. Nor did he want to take the filter out as I had just filled the tank right up and he said it would gush out.

So he followed me back to the workshop where I had collected her from on Friday. I had phoned Allen to tell him and asked if he could come and collect me. He wasn’t at home but in Bodmin. But the AA chap said not to worry as he would give me a lift back.

We dropped Banana off and he said that he needed the mileage, well when he looked at the mileage he said is that right, 217,454 miles. Yes I said. He was even more surprised to learn she is a 1.8t.
Keys into a envelope and dropped through the letterbox.

He dropped me off close to home.

So it looks like I’ll have to use the Bear, sigh, tomorrow.

Very unfortunate Bob and even more frustrating I'm sure. Sounds like the AA man was a decent chap. Response time was very impressive. One small silver lining. Murphy and Mr NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- continues to rule!

There have been a few times when I have said enough is enough. But she is my very special baby. Saved me from the worst kind of depression you could imagine.

Sorry to hear a further setback Bob. That does seem a remarkably helpful recovery guy.

Bad luck with Banana.....Looks like she wanted to try and match the Bear with her fuel usage

Nice to see that there are some good peeps out there in the world still giving a 'proper' level of service to their customers

This............."Saved me from the worst kind of depression you could imagine.".............. is a great thing to post on a public forum, though I have never suffered from it myself, I have friends and family who have and have seen the effects and problems it causes.

Reading it may prompt others to realise that there can be light at the end of the tunnel and not to be afraid of seeking help, not be ashamed of it and more importantly talk to others about it.

Thanks.👍

I went off the AA years ago when I had to get them out to the Omega I had at the time. I had to give the AA guy one of my spare fuses for his van!
