Facelift chrome bootlid numberplate removal
Hi all.Tricky problem now! About to fit new numberplate lightstrip ( dmgr spares). (only
1 light working, and after testing, my local rover trained mechanic , who is fixing couple of other things. was undoing nuts on chrome cover, and found one was just' spinning ' ,so couldnt get it off.Said he'd never seen that before,-though was evidence of previous owner having had this cover off before. I asked if nut could be cut off from underside, but could see there is very limited access, and he didnt think this was possible, and only solution may be to try somehow cutting / forcing it off, and getting another replacement chrome cover. Dont know if anyone else had this problem?,but any thoughts greatly appreciated, |

I think but am not really sure, the head of the bolt fits into a slot in the chrome cover. Once old bolt removed take a look to see how best to replace it. If there is space there is a 3 nut technique that can be used to tighten the new bolt if the head of the bolt can not be secured.
Can the end of the old bolt be held in some grips and the nut then undone? macafee2 |

There are 2 nuts and 2 self cutting or push fit nuts. If it's one of these spinning, just gently lever the chrome up and away from the boot lid, at the same time, holding the spinning nut with pliers or a socket.

Chrome bootlid removal- for new numberplate light strip.
Thanks for replies gents. From brief look I had this morning ,with mechanic, at situation I couldnt envisage how bolt heads were fixed.
Mechanic was using extended ratchet on nuts, and as I mentioned access was restricted Will have another look tomorrow-see if I can understand a bit more about it ,from your comments.( Have got MOT coming up and apparently 1 numberplate light out would be an ' advisory.if we cant fix it before then?)
