Unusual tyre wear
Hello all...
I'm getting some very unusual tyre wear on the osf of my ZTT, right on the very inside edge of the tread. I can only think this is caused by contact with something as its nothing like tracking wear, but I cannot see it contacting anything on either extreme of steering lock. The closest thing might be the underside of the spring cup, but how would that be possible if it's a fixed distance from the tyre?! I'm very confused. I assume something is so worn that it's allowing so much movement the tyre is touching something. Any ideas what it might be? Thanks! Maybe tyre out of round oval or wheels out of round? have you taken it to tyre place to see what they think.

Plastic arch liner perhaps?
Although you would hear that when it is contacting the tyre.

As SD1 says, it looks like tyre carcase, cords damage causing a bulge in that area of tread, especially when you look at the sipes which should wear more or less equally.
It you compare the depth of the top one, with the others down the tyre they all get shallower. Jack the wheel slightly clear of the ground, spin it slowly and see if you can see or feel a bulge in the tyre, BUT DON'T GET YOUR FINGERS UNDER THE TYRE. Either way with that type and extent of abnormal tread wear it needs replacing as soon as .

Thanks for your input folks.
A couple of months ago I had the nsf tyre replaced due to a similar wear pattern. The nsf shock was bent (visibly so) after an incident with a hump back bridge! I believed them to be linked. The shock was replaced after an emergency replacement of the tyre after it went in for a puncture repair and was discovered in a similar but worse condition than this one. I had not considered the tyre(s) to be faulty. I have assumed so far that I have suspension wear issues. I've just checked the rear and the nsr tyre is showing the early stages of similar wear! Unbelievable. I need an expert opinion on this I guess, before taking it up with the manufacturer (Landsail ... fitted by tyresonthedrive. Last edited by r44flyer; 11th May 2022 at 14:17.. |

I wonder if the car need four wheel alignment if the rear are going the same way? either way it needs to looked at properly.

It will be going in for an alignment, certainly. No regular speed bumps or particularly poor roads.
It is the fact that it is so localised to the extreme edge of the tyre that gets me. Usually you might see the shoulder wearing away a little if it was toeing poorly, but it's as if something has dug into it over a width of 10mm or so and nowhere else. |
