Default small tracker

I am after a small tracker that can work off its own battery and be active for at least 5 days to a week. Also needs to be accurate with giving outs its location and be cheap.
Can a phone be used as the tracker so I track the phone?
which phone or phones can be used?
what software would need to go on the phone and onto my laptop to do the tracking?

Have you ever used a mobile phone tracking service to locate a mobile phone, if you have which service and was it any good?
It is too late to install software on the phone

Thanks but that needs a 12v supply from the car. I can only use double or treble A or some other form of standalone battery.

So is that the sort of thing you are looking for? as it is a stand alone unit.

It looks like something that would work but I was hoping for cheaper as I expect it will be a one time use and I dont expect I will be getting it back.

I use on of these in my classic mini, uses a cheap PAYG sim card, I use Giff Gaff, detects vehicle movement, speed and location and texts me the details.
