Front spring broken
I'm sure there's many posts, but yet again when I search I get the dreaded blank page with (.....do=process) in the tab. Why is this?
So, my connie saloon has broken a front spring while parked. Possibly it's happened before in 53k miles as spring protectors are fitted. My question is - is it acceptable to replace just the broken spring? All the books say to replace both, but as breakage seems to be a common occurance does it make sense to wait for the other to go? Presumably I can identify it by the colour marks to obtain the correct one from Rimmers, who seem to sell most of them singly, except a few genuine ones sold as a pair. Comments and advice would be appreciated. |

If your struggling to id the correct spring replacement you will find a label under the back seat with all the info you need re springs and shockers.
Rimmer's are a tad on the pricey side and it can be worth shopping around. I'd be tempted to replace them as a pair as even a a correct rated new spring will have different feel to it than an older one. They could be an inbalance issue I have a couple of front springs lieing around in the garage I really must get round to sticking on sometime! The problem with just waiting for the other one to go is that it may well take the tyre with it

Have a look at this....
http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...?p=421#post421 As said replace the pair, safest option whenever dealing with any part of your undercarriage As for the blank page on the forum search... a cross we have to bear I'm afraid. A glitch that we cannot seem to resolve.... Try our own google search.... http://www.google.com/custom?hl=en&c...ndztclub.co.uk

Best practice on suspension parts is change both sides, be it springs, dampers etc. as handling could be affected.

My offside one broke recently and I'd only time to replace it but bought a pair. Yes I'd agree replace in pairs but I've not noticed any difference to be honest. Get the strut top bearings too as you will probably need them.

KYB are a good choice for replacement springs. They dont have quite as many variants as rimmers but do have a number of different ones. I have KYB all round now and cant honestly tell the difference.
Replacing the springs was probably easier than getting the back seat back down. |

Yes you must replace both sides. The only time not to is if you have a used one you're certain is identical.
Aftermarket springs are all over the place on stiffness ratings/ model range, you get a "one size fits all " vagueness..... |

It is "best practice" to replace both sides, however, when Ed broke one of his rear springs last year, I could only afford to replace it with a cheap replacement spring off eBay and the car sits level and rides and drives as it should, so I have to say, a lot of it is down to your finances, so just replace what YOU are happiest doing!

I broke a front spring yesterday too, X Part are £96 for a pair which is good if you live close to an X Part dealer, I was quoted £112 delivered from allcarparts though, the break on mine is very rusty so it had been cracked quite a while, at least it didn't take the tyre out as well.

Out of interest why do the springs so much on these cars? Are there not heavy duty aftermarket springs?
I am guessing it may be that the springs are so soft to give the 'glide' ride quality that they just give up? If that is the case do ZTs suffer spring issues as well?
