Default Loud twang from car

Hi just pulled away from parking up from last night and heard a loud twang from the car like a cable under tension snapping

Have had parking brake binding on before in my 800 and that was more of a thump as you pulled away not this twang.

So any ideas on what to check parking brake slows me down and stops the car if I apply it when slowly coasting.

Thanks

I read somewhere on here that it is quite unusual for the cables to snap, so I would suggest a possible spring broken

I would as above check the springs (front) sooner rather than later

Breaks can be really hard to spot too, as they often occur very near the end of the coil.

One of my rear springs broke on a campsite when the car hadn't even moved for a few hours. Despite hearing it go and telling people servicing the car of my suspicions, it got through 2 services and 1 MOT before being found.

Yes, sounds like one of your suspenders has gone!

Been out for a look the springs look fine, looks like it's a wheel off look tomorrow, any hints on how to check the springs, was thinking jack it up take pressure off the spring and then attack it with a bar for movement?

Thanks

If you put your hand in you should be able to feel the ends of the spring usually (but not always) the end of a broken spring breaks off at an angle, so if the end is not smooth and squared off (be careful it might be sharp) chances are it's broken, you might find the broken bit sitting in the 'holder' on the suspension leg that the spring is supposed to sit in.

If it's a broken Spring you're likely to see a difference in the ride height from one side to the other (unless both springs are broken! )
Measure the gap from the wheel to the arch, on level ground.

I've also had the twang noise when one of the top mounts has failed as the strut can't twist properly and the spring jumps a little in its seat.
