Turbo lifespan.
I'm specifically talking about the one fitted to the 1.8.What would be a typical lifespan for the unit mileage wise assuming the car has been driven normally and it has not been suffered coolant contamination. You hear of a few failing but not that many considering how many are out there.
Based on average annual mileage and proper warm down after a long run is it possible that it could last the life of the car?

I do the see a reason why not, Mick plenty of cars out there on the current turbo. Maintanance is key, for sure I believe.

Ah . . . . this is something I never heard of before. What is a proper warm down after a long run cos I'm going to be doing a few of those soon.

when you arrived let the car running for a few second before switching off the engine, allowing the turbo to cool down a bit

I think the idea is to allow the turbo to slow down so it doesnt run on without an oil feed.

My 1.8t still has it's original turbo, has suffered 4 HGF's in it's life, and the car is on 189,200 miles. We also have a Z & F re-map and the head has been ported. I let her warm up a bit when starting from cold.
We are also on our original clutch as well.

Yes I always change the oil and filter annualy even though the car has only averaged 2-3K a year in my ownership . So far . I understand there was a directive from MG-R that engine flush is NOT to be used on the turbo models.
