Default e-Scooters

Blimey! 15 e-scooter riders were killed on UK roads on them last year with 900 more casualties. I see them around my neck o the woods quite often whizzing along the road & pavements with ne'er a care in the world for road junctions & the like. https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/car...-riders-killed

If you had any doubts about e-Scooters you only have to look at the Isle Of Wight where the council has been running a trial hire scheme.

Oh heck! Doesn't bode well saying they want people to use these things for last mile transport or public transport in towns & cities.

Looks like we'll be getting an influx of e-scooters on public roads as Grant shapps plans to lift the ban on privately owned e-scooters, An announcement is expected in the Queens speech on May 10th. https://www.transport-network.co.uk/RAC ... tion/17690

The problem is not the inanimate object but the fools that ride them. While some scooter riders are safe and careful, others are not and these are the ones that just like drivers, need to be removed.

There also needs to be decent paths for e-scooters to use. I think we need to examine each accident to see the cause and then we can form a plan for safety. Speed, awareness, anticipation, mentality and observation I bet all play a part in the accident statistics.
Look around the word and I bet there will be places where pedestrians, cyclists and e-scooters all co exist with minimal fuss.
We need to see how they do it and try to follow suit.

Yeah, that's this administrations forte. Go forward with totally useless schemes (HS2, NTL's etc. etc.) and trumpet them as major innovations. Waste of space the whole lot of them (and expensive too).

Problem for drivers on the roads is that coming soon to your area is an e-scooter rider/bike under the vehicle and then trying to convince the police that it "came out of nowhere".

The scooters are inherently unstable because of the small wheels.

There are quite a lot around here driving both on the road & pavement with ne'er a care in the world about road/pedestrian safety, They know full well PC Plod only operates in town/city centres these days & wont be enforcing any laws in urban areas.

It's all part of the UK's effort to achieve their Net Zero targets & reduce ICE journeys.

I've no doubt larger wheels will be available in the future.
