Default Chaos at ports

What’s going on, airports and sea ports used to run smoothly? I’m glad I cannot go on holiday at the moment, my daughters family have just experienced the chaos at Manchester airport. Dover looks horrendous.

I'm still in touch with a few drivers from my lorry driving days & it's a nightmare at Dover, Kent council refused planning permission for a much needed new 24 Truck stop & wonder why there are ten mile queues outside of Dover, They're planning a 'Major incident' if the log jam persists. https://www.localgov.co.uk/Council-w...persists/54013

The P&O debacle drastically reduced the number of ferries running, other operators simply cannot cope with the demand.

The airports are paying the price for not being prepared for the restriction free Easter holiday surge after letting so many staff go during the pandemic.

At holiday times there's always chaos at the ports, airports and on the roads. Then the same at the other end followed by overcrowding at the beaches etc.

Simple solution - stay at home. It also helps the planet as well as keeping alive the dream of going on a foreign hodiday!

Please tell me more about Machester, what was the problem and how long were the delays?

Manchester seems to be mainly delays around security. This is from the BBC News website:
"Manchester Airport told the BBC the long waits it has seen at security last week could continue, with some passengers facing queues of 60 to 90 minutes over the next few weeks."

This is from the Manchester Airport CEO:
"Practically, staff shortages mean that we cannot open all the security lanes we need and at times, this results in longer queues than we want to see. While we still expect most passengers to get through in less than 30-40 minutes, there will be times over the next few months when waiting times will rise to between 60 and 90 minutes."

I listen to radio Manchester in the garage/greenhouse & these delays have been going on for weeks with people turning up 4 hours ahead of time & still missing their flights

Not sure why but daughters family went with plenty of time to spare and faced delays. The plane was significantly late taking off due to the delays of people being processed. Did not the chief executive just resign?. Dover has a huge problem much worse than normal.
