thanks for all the replies on my original post on saturday i had the dog in the car and the bang happened again i rolled the window down to listen while the car was moving i could hear something rubbing when i got out i'm sure i could smell rubber burning i put the dog on the front sea as he is a big dog he's a Bernese Mountain dog when i drove of there was no rubbing sound took car to garage put it onto ramp checked springs but according to the mechanic no broken springs yet on the way to the garage i got another bang when pulling away from the traffic lights it certainly sounds as if it's coming from the rear offside any suggestions appreciated thanks

Have you checked the condition of the rear suspension upper arms and rear lower arm mounting brackets?

Provided you are in the Alexandria near Glasgow and not in Egypt(!) I'd suggest a trip to see Dunc (cossie dunc on here) in Whitburn. Great mechanic and nice guy.
