The plastic T piece is a classic failure point on the Turbo cooling system - i would advise you to swop out the plastic T Piece for a metal one.

Rimmer Bros have a fair selection of genuine hose replacements as well as the T-pieces. I'm going to redo all of mine on my 1.8 N/A, already had the T-piece fail and hoses are hardened. When the head gasket goes the oil in the coolant is not good for the hoses.

Please be aware that the DMGRS T piece is only suitable if your car has a PRT. My 1.8T has original thermostat at the back of the engine,no PRT and the pipework is very different.
I understand most 1.8Ts have a PRT fitted so yours may be ok?I suppose one of the replacement T piece outlets could be blanked off.
Having said all that, my T piece is original plastic one and still OK at 20 years old....
