London Charging Zone
At the end of August I had to visit South London.
M4 then via Earls Court. onto Chelsea embankment and due to cross river at Vauxhall Bridge. Approached bridge on right hand lane to find bridge closed (No prior warning notices). Only alternative drive on (into dreaded Zone) and take next bridge. Just before Lambeth bridge relieved to see large notice stating NO CONGESTION CHARGE so over bridge and via Elephant and Castle to destination (all without seeing any further notices. Sacre bleu! Yesterday received notice of an £80 fine for driving into Zone. Today sent off appeal that the Waiver of Charge should be honoured. I bet they will say I missed a diversion sign and must pay up. Compensation, the 75 went the return trip like a dream, despite London traffic 280 mile trip at over 45mpg (CDTi auto). Can't blame the car, must be the driver |
