Bodges
What is with cars that attract bodge artists?
Yesterday I started up my project grey zt, noticed a damp patch on the floor so I looked underneath and saw oil along the sump, I wiped it off and thought I’ll have a good look tomorrow. So today I remove the drivers wheel and peel back the arch liner, to be greeted with this. Why oh why ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I had that on member ‘teddy’s’ car when he drove over from Holland to have the timing belts done.
We were on a tight schedule as he had to catch the ferry back home, thankfully once all the silicone was off and the area cleaned, the dipstick tube pushed in and held as it should, no idea why someone had done that?

I think it’s going to have to be replaced, is it a sump off job or does that part simply unscrew?

I think it’s a push in fitting if my memory serves me well, measure the diameter of the dipstick, I can’t remember if it’s 10 or 12 mm.
I might be able to find a fitting that will work for you (or you can cannibalise it to make yours work) it’s normally just the metal toothed ring and the red plastic collar that fails. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’ve seen two versions, a red locking collar type with o-ring and a push fit but that may have been on a ZS180. Removing the sump is not easy with exhaust fitted, the corner set screw on the sump has to be cut in place with the sump dropped by approx 3/4” or so, use a hacksaw blade to cut the thread between the faces. Fit a slightly shorter set screw.

After a bit of digging on the web it looks like the tube is just a simple push fit into a connector much like those found elsewhere on the kv6.
How it got damaged enough to produce an oil leak is beyond me, but the best is yet to come, I have to put right the bodge by probable replacement of the tube and connector due to it being "fixed" by some form of epoxy putty which dries as hard as steel. oh the joys.............. |
