Just like to add to this thread that a few weeks ago I managed to repair my sat nav doing pretty much exactly what Jezza describes above. The unit would not shut down and the red light stayed on. I stripped it down, found water damage, cleaned it up as desctibed and....... it now works perfectly!!!!!!!!!
