I love to see them but wish they weren't so destructive. They empty the plastic birdfeeders of the sunflower hearts and trash them with their sharp teeth in their upsidedown feeding frenzies

Had a word with a most annoying know-all, I hope my patience is appreciated, and the correct term is 'Bark'. He says: 'Contrary to popular opinion it has nothing to do with the bark on trees. It comes from the habit of the males (dogs or bucks, as they are called he thinks) calling for you-know-what services from those bushy-tailed beauties with the eye-lashes who just happen to have a minute or two in between coquettishly showing off'. Sounds familiar.

We have loads of black ones around here, I think they outnumber the grey one. Plenty of both types though.

Quite a few pheasants as well, as there is a shoot nearby.

In your French habitat they'll be the Communist ones. Tend to gather behind the scenes and talk (mainly squabbles) a lot. With the immigration of the greys from America they tended to be gradually discouraged and diminished. Sad really, they were a plus factor.

No idea if a squirrel can be trained to do things they don't ordinarily do but I know they can be taught to fly ... I've seen ithem on the telly.
Joking aside, a few years ago whilst at Thorpe park I saw a squirrel jump from a small tree straight onto a swing bin, after a few seconds it regained it's composure and balance and then put it's weight on one side of the lid so it would open and he dropped into the bin.
A few seconds past and his little head appeared from under the lid peaking out as though he was on the look-out, when he jumped out I saw he had what looked like a piece of burger bap or similar, as soon as he knew the coast was clear he scurried back into the tree he came from.
Not a great story I know but it was fascinating watching him, they kind of remind me of foxes, bin chickens (aka seagulls) .... opportunists with excellent survival skills using it's surroundings for easy pickings.

I hate to break this to you old chap, but what you describe sounds more like a rat.
