Default Possible EGR bypass issues

Evening people.

So I finally got round to fitting my EGR bypass today.

My god, so much crud in the old valve and also the intercooler pipe. There must have been a good cm or so. I cleaned it out best as I could (the intercooler pipe that is), being careful not to damage the temperature sensor that was inside the pipe.

Anyways, changed over the EGR for the bypass no issues.

Also put the vacuum pipe onto the small blanking pole, again no issues.

Switched the car on once straight after installing the bypass, no issues.

Reassembled the panels on top of engine, cleaned everything up and switched car on again, this time the EML was on.

Revved the car a bit, still on. Switched the car off and waited 5 minutes, on again and EML still on. Went for a 2 minute spin EML still on.

Switched car off and left for about 40 minutes or so and switched car on, EML still on. So decided to drive home, as the car was running fine. Drove for about 10 minutes and parked up to go shops. When I switched the car on again, this time the EML had gone off. Drove all the way home, about 30 minutes and the EML stayed off.

Any ideas anyone?

By the way, car runs much smoother now with the bypass. Smoother idling as well and much better acceleration

Im guessing if you have got a temp sensor in the intercooler pipe it is a later model or facelift. I was advised by marinabrian that disconnecting the egr may bring on the eml on later models but this can be overcome by disconnecting a plug near to the egr. Apologies cant remember what connection. Maybe someone can advise or the man himself may read this and clarify what to do.

Correct for some unknown reason some cars do it some don't on my 2005 ZT it never came on so yours may have self fixed so to speak...

Well it's been fine now so far (touch wood). I guess I'll just have to keep an eye on it.

I have fitted the bypass on my 2005 build CDTi, with the sensor in the pipe- no problems afterwards

There seems to be mixed opinions on the subject. Have a read of this thread:
