Default air con issue

Hi all
Ive just noticed that my aircon doesn't seem right!
The pump seems to switch off after a few minutes when im sitting stationery and on idle, that frosty bite goes away almost straight away!! Yet when i get it out on the road its fine,, cant really hear the pump but the frosty cool air is flying out..
My old petrol 75 would be cool at all times and other cars ive checked...
Is there an issue or does the cdti normally behave this way...only had car a few weeks..
Also ive done a recharge so refrigerant is full etc..
Thanks

Probable radiator fan not working - to test, AC off, engine running then hit front demist button on ATC control panel, radiator fan should run at low speed, if it doesn't most likely cause is failed silver resistor, you'll need to replace with uprated gold one available from Jules forum shop

Ok so no low speed fan!! I have a facelift zt and no sign of the old silver resistor...
I have not noticed any over heat issues yet though i have not idled the engine until cooling fan temp is reached.. temp seems to stay in the middle as normal.
Thanks

So how do i? A, determine what type of fan i have? 2 or 3 speed!
B, troubleshoot the fault beyond the demist test?
Thanks

I have the same problem. At idle the pump turns on intermittently.
When on high speed, the car blows ice cold air but on traffic it is just plain air
Cold air is gone. i dont know if this is related but The engine temp gauge is bang on the middle when in town but on the motorway it is on quarter position.

See my post on cooling fan.. demist test like i was advised,, tho ur temp gauge reading lower than midway on a run could be stuck open thermostat!
What engine is yours?

You look for the resistor. If you don't see one, you either have a three speed fan or the resistor is mounted out of sight.

Take off the bumper and count the number of wires entering the motor housing: two wires = 2 speed fan, four wires = 3 speed fan.

Hello werdna232002 and to the club. It's a lot more friendly to use a first name so please do put one in your profile. Now, to answer your questions.

Cold air is gone.
First of all the component you are describing is known as the compressor, not the "pump". Now, are you sure that the compressor is cutting out? Have you lifted the bonnet at idle and checked? The circumstances you describe usually result from a failed radiator cooling fan slow speed.

It sounds as if you have a faulty thermostat. Which engine do you have: V6 petrol or diesel?
