Default Cowley Wheels

Cowley wheels…

Just small question about wheels on cowley built 75s. My bluebird when I got her had union alloys on. As it’s a connie according to the brochure she should have had crowns. This is what I’ve put on her. Recently I looked at the unions I took off to find all the wheel centres are dated mid 1999… so these could be the original wheels.
Does anyone know much about the cowley specs? This car was used by rover for 6 months before it was released for sale.

Thank you.

If it's any help Cowley Classics had Contours fitted.

Hello Josh,

I have a launch brochure dated 1999 when your car was registered. The 16 inch Union wheels were optional on the Connoisseur (in fact available on all trim levels except Classic SE) so your bluebird is perfectly entitled to have them! Crowns were the standard fitment though.

Thank you,

So the ones I took off were probably the originals. they are in a horrid state so would need stripping and powder coating. one thing I have noticed is the centre cap badges are more a brighter red.

I do prefer crowns on her to be fair. if they were optional I wonder why rover added them and not put standard crowns on.
