Default Sell or repair, but who to fix?? Hull/East Yorkshire

Hello, I have a lovely 2004 CDT saloon.

It's been in the family since new and has done 156000 miles.

However local garage which has serviced it throughout tells me it's going to cost around £2000 to keep on the road.

Loads of front parts, rear arms on and on.

They charge £45 an hour and I'm looking at £500 to £600 in parts.

Before it goes, is there anywhere Hull / East Yorkshire worth bobbing it to for a second opinion??

MOT'd till November 2020

Many thanks

Chris

I think it needs:

front springs, lower alloy arm?, bushes

rear disks and pads and offside upper suspension arm

shocks I believe on most corners

Front near side bearing might be going to

Haven't got an itemised list but could probably get one

Thanks by the way, seems like a load of hassle to get the parts, garage whilst great, are stacked out with modern cars and I don't think really want the hassle, which I can understand.

They're suggesting two days labour.

They don't want the work on it, that is why they are charging you such a price, i doubt with the items they are saying needs doing it would not have passed a MOT the maths don't workout

2 days work you say, that's 24 hours at £45 = £1,080 and they will not work on it 24/7 have no worry about that.

Add you £600 for parts total = £1,680

They are only open 8 hours per day so if one man worked on the car for a total of 8 hours his shift lets say, then again the next day 16 hours at £45 is £720 add that to your £600 then you have £1,320

Find somewhere else and don't ever use them again is my opinion.

Chris

has a front spring snapped, if it has replace both may be able to get complete units.
front lower arm, mmm replace both perhaps would need to check the other
bush replace both perhaps
upper arm check the other this too may be on its way out
if rear discs shot, what are front like

This is all DIY stuff so £2,000 does seem expensive. I've not done a front bearing but done all the other jobs.

You are right to seek a second opinion Chris. For all the things you mention to have reached a critical stage since the last MOT in November last year cannot be the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

BigRuss is a club trader based in Leeds. Why not send him a PM to ask if he's willing to look at your car and advise you what, if anything, really needs doing.

Out of interest and looking at the daily rate is it a garage in Hessle Square ? If so i would take the car to Churchside in Hessle ask them to have a look and compare their view with the first garage - they will give you an honest appraisal .As said am suprised she passed her MOT last time did you have any advisories? - as MOT due November get the work prioritised and done over a few months buying the parts from DMGRS and Rimmers etc.

Default Sell or repair who to fix

if you're OK with second hand parts try the car breakers in Skulcoates Lane Hull who have a lot of 75 spares and mechanics to fit them cost much less than £40 an hour! If by any chance they don't have the parts needed then Amazon breakers will but they don't fit them. Phone number under Jay's Rover Parts. I 'very used Jay in the past with good, cheap results.
