Lancaster Insurance
I sold my TF at the weekend & cancelled the insurance today.
I have been on cover for 89 days so I expected a refund, but a large part of the premium was an non refundable arrangement fee, & Lancaster charge £50 for cancelling, so no refund at all. I wish I hadn't bothered phoning, I was stuck in a queue for 20 minutes, complete waste of time!

Like many they are a rip off, you end up paying for a full yr with all their fees.

I had another car insured with Lancaster, up for renewal this month. The premium was remarkably competitive but the 'Arrangement Fee' -read Commission - amounted to 40% of it! When I phoned to complain, I mean enquire if it was correct, a two minute hold produced a fee reduction of 30%. I've saved the extension number for next year. I doubt a comparison site would have been better.

The charges are one of the things to check when taking out insurance - they vary widely between companies. Unsurprisingly, the cheaper insurance policies have higher charges for changes, cancellation etc.
Allowing a car to remain insured in your own name after it has been sold is not a good idea - by doing so you would be declaring an ongoing interest in the car. The insurance should be cancelled even if there is no refund or perhaps a cancellation fee that means the insured ends up paying extra on top of the original premium, which theoretically could happen with some insurance contracts. |

well things could have been a lot worse, the new owner could have used the car but not insured it and had an accident and guess who's insurance they would have claimed off of.
Harsh not to get any refund macafee2 |
