Ok brian has kindly sorted the imobiliser and sent back. All parts refitted but still no start, no crank, no change. Surely sombody must have come across a similar problem. I still have the 1 fault code, could this be the promblem?. I have uploaded a photo of the diagnostics. Any one?

No, that is a red herring, the unknown fault code relates to an obsolete PAS load sensor deleted from later cars....... it definitely works though, take a look here.

I would now take a look at fuse 8 passenger compartment fusebox, and I've attached a couple of diagrams for you

Ok weather not kind here so will probably be Saturday. I have doubled checked all fuses glove comp and engine bay, i will check fuse 8 for power and check for various power supplies from wiring diagram.
Thanks

Care to impart any pearls of wisdom Simon?

I wouldn't have thought you have anything to bring to the table really, unless you know why the OP's key number two had a data fault, which I obviously reset then subsequently tested, as evidenced with his ECU set happily starting and running my own 75 1800 which hasn't turned a wheel since October last year.

So the questions are

1 - What do we think caused the original corruption of the key transponder assigned to slot two of the EWS?

2 - Do we treat this corruption as a symptom of an underlying cause other than the usual suspect of repeated attempts to start the car with a discharged battery?, and if so what do you think may be the cause in this case?

I await your learned answer with bated breath

Smile Wonders will never cease

So i went along this afternoon with all intentions of checking various fuses for power supplies . when i arrived nobody was home so my fist thought was oops i need some one to hold the key in start position while i check power to fuse 8, oh well i'll just check the fuse continuity again first, it was fine but i'll change it anyway. I replaced the fuse with a new one and wondered how am i going to test it for power on my own.whilst wondering i tuned the key to start position
Guess what?, it STARTED hooray. So i put everything back into place covers screws etc, switched it off, tried starting 3-4 more times and job done. (make of this what you will), I would like to thank all you guys for your input and help on this ,particular thanks to Super Brian who is a legend
Many thanks all.

I have read (ie not experienced) that heavier fuses can 'blow' /fail but still show continuity. The problem is the current. Whilst they blow, they dont completely sever, but effectively become too thin to carry the required current.

Could just have been surface corrosion on the fuse blades, the later fusebox is really bad for this

Had more than a few cars with this problem where simply cleaning the fuse blades has solved non working circuits.

Good to hear all is now well and it's all back up and running again.
